Capital Region Otolaryngology Head & Neck Group, LLP was originally started by Lyon M. Greenberg, M.D. Dr. Greenberg began his Ear, Nose, and Throat practice in 1964 at 485 Western Avenue in Albany. His support staff was one other person, who ran all of the aspects of the entire office.
The practice grew quickly and needed more space and in 1969, moved to 980 Western Avenue. Dr. Arthur Cohn was Dr. Greenberg’s first partner. Dr. Cohn trained in New York City with a fellowship in head and neck surgery, before returning to his hometown to practice. Dr. Aaron Sher, nationally known in the field of sleep medicine, practicing in NYC, quickly learned that there was life north of Manhattan. He joined the practice in 1986. He established the first Sleep Center in Northeast N.Y. Dr. Michael DeVito completed his training at the prestigious Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Then in 1989, he decided to practice in his hometown area.
Eventually, Dr. Ernst Kopp merged his well known established practice with Capital Region Otolaryngology Head and Neck Group, LLP. John Kopp, M.D., son of Ernst Kopp, M.D. joined the practice after training at the University of Connecticut. Dr. John Kopp served in the US Air Force as Chief of Otolaryngology at Andrews Air Force Base. In 1991 Dr. John Kopp began practicing medicine in the only second generation Ear, Nose and Throat practice. Dr. John Cevera brought the best of the hometown talent from his training at Albany Medical Center to our local practice in 2002. In 2006, Dr. Howard Weiss, D.O. (Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine), board certified in Sleep Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Diseases and Critical Care, joined the practice. He is the Assistant Medical Director to Dr. Aaron Sher at the Sleep Center.
Additional satellite offices were established; Troy 1986, Clifton Park 1991, Hudson 1995, Schenectady 1998 and the first Sleep Center in Upstate New York in 1988. In 1999, Capital Region Otolaryngology Head & Neck Group, LLP moved the entire practice to 6 Executive Park Drive.
